It would seem that a male priest is more an icon for the paternalistic tradition of the church and its priesthood, than for the eternal LOGOS of God. As an aside, the LOGOS language in John chapter 1 is obviously derivative of the description of WISDOM which appears in Proverbs. And, as we know, WISDOM in the book of Proverbs is depicted as Female.   That being said, there are a variety of scriptures that indicate that men are to be ordained to the priesthood, rather than women. The first, and most obvious, is that when Christ chose his apostles he chose men. One might think that if Christ intended women to be part of that then he would have done so. This precedent alone should be sufficient.

A priesthood was thus created without any biblical justification, a fact that may have contributed to the priesthood's reluctance to allow people to read the Bible. When people did read the Bible for themselves and failed to find the word sacerdos (priest), only presbyter (elder), the result was widespread anger. Catholic Holy Orders: Books on the Priesthood Without priests, the Catholic Faith could not exist. They are such a vital part of every Catholic's spiritual life, because they bring the sacraments. They alone can offer the consolations of the Sacrament of Penance and can change bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ.

Despite the fact that the church had spoken definitively on the subject there are still some Catholics who believe women's ordination to the priesthood is a possibility. Therefore it is worth going through the discussion again. Hilaire Belloc said, “Every argument is a theological argument.” Therefore we must be aware, in the argument for women’s ordination.   Some Reasons Why Women Can’t Be Priests that converts to Christianity would not accept a female priesthood. Reason #2. and The Christian Book of the Dead.

The all-male priesthood begins with Christ, is continued by the apostles, and is part of the unbroken tradition of the Church.

The document explains: “The Church intends to remain faithful to the type of ordained ministry willed by the Lord Jesus Christ and. Since God is the one who has appointed the different roles within the Church, no one can claim a right to any position within the body of Christ.

This is especially the case with sacraments. No one—male or female—has a “right” to be a priest. It is not like a governmental office that anyone can run for. It is a sacrament, and no one has. Priest, in some Christian churches, an officer or minister who is intermediate between a bishop and a deacon.

With the spread of Christianity, the parish priest became the principal celebrant of the Eucharist. Following the Reformation, many Protestant churches substituted ministers for.

Several terms are employed in the New Testament to express various relationships that Christians sustain to God and to one another. They are designated as "children" in view of the new birth process that is required for a spiritual union with their Creator (John ; 2 Corinthians ; Galatians ).

As a result of his incarnation (John ), Jesus entered into a. Hence, if the male priesthood was only a custom, conditioned by the historical setting of Jesus, then it seems likely that the early Church would have abandoned this custom among Gentile Christians (especially since the Council of Jerusalem made the momentous decision that Jewish customs need not be embraced by Gentiles converting to Christianity).

The priesthood is one of the three holy orders of the Catholic Church, comprising the ordained priests or other two orders are the bishops and the men are allowed to receive holy orders, and the church does not allow any transgender people to do so.

Church doctrine also sometimes refers to all baptised Catholics as the "common priesthood". Some Scriptural Arguments For The All-Male Priesthood This article provides three Scriptural arguments for the all-male priesthood gathered under .Why the Christian priesthood is male / [by] V.

While He was on earth, Jesus chose men to be His apostles and He passed on authority to these men to carry out His work of preaching the good news and forgiving sins ().The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains, “The Church recognizes.

The practice of the Christian priesthood begins when the believer surrenders his own body as a “living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship” (Rom.

Unlike the OT sacrifices which surrendered their life once, the Christian life is a moment by moment, continual surrender to God. The doctrine of the “priesthood of all believers” is one that is easily misunderstood but joyfully affirmed by a number of Christian groups across denominational lines.

Uche Anizor and Hank Voss’ book, Representing Christ: A Priesthood of All Believers is an attempt to hash out the particulars of this challenging, freeing doctrine. According to St Paul, therefore, while everyone, male or female, is of equal dignity in the body of Christ which is the Church, it does not follow that all are equally entitled to claim the right to serve God in identical ways.

Priesthood is a calling – a vocation – not a right; it is for Christ to choose through whom he will act. Their are parts of this book as relevant years later as the day they were written. I'm not a monk or in any kind of professional ministry, but Chrysostom's descriptions of the deceits of human heart, the ways we fool ourselves into thinking we're far more righteous than we really are, the masks we wear -- even to our self -- are all well diagnosed by Chrysostom/5(6).

The novel about female priesthood, and why it missed the mark. Male genitalia. Why is the presence of a penis a fundamental requirement for a celibate priesthood. reads the work of Christian scholars and has felt “called” to the priesthood for so long would’ve taken half an hour to find a slightly better answer as to why she can.

The only things I struggled with while reading this book is 1) I was confused on the difference between being a Christian and being in the royal priesthood, especially when talking about duties of the royal priesthood, and 2) just that it was hard for me to catch on to the level of theological language in this book, once I got to the second /5(14).

Why the Male Priesthood Always Made Sense to Me Jennifer Fulwiler When I got to the part in Catholicism for Dummies about the male priesthood, you’d think I would have recoiled. Fiona Givens, a Deseret Book author and popular Mormon speaker, says early LDS women were given priesthood keys -- and that there is historical tradition linking Heavenly Mother to.

While they may be articulated in the context of an absolute opposition to women in the priesthood—as mine was—all that they are arguing is that, in turning their backs on an male-only priesthood, supporters of women in the priesthood are also turning their backs upon a masculine priesthood, and that this shift has significant and.

Incidentally she did not favour giving the priesthood to women. See her essay ‘The Ideals of the Ministry of Women’, in Mixed Pastures (London ); cited by V. Demant, Why the Christian Priesthood is Male (2nd edn, Church Literature Association, London ), pp.

1 Hannah, Hebrews Class Notes. 2 Before you begin this section, I found it helpful to make a chart comparing the former priests with the priesthood of Christ. Complete this chart first (on the last page of this lesson) and use it as a reference as you answer the questions.

3 It is helpful to know that the word “salvation” in Hebrews refers to our future-fulfilled inheritance n Christ. This book didn't change the way I viewed women and the priesthood as much as it shaped the way I viewed the priesthood, period. I have priesthood power in a very real way, independent of my husband, though only he and I together have the fullness of the priesthood.

I learned that from this book. I learned about personal revelation/5.The Book of Mormon declared that the gospel message of salvation should go forth to “every nation, kindred, tongue, and people.” 18 While there were no limits on whom the Lord invited to “partake of his goodness” through baptism, 19 the priesthood and temple restrictions created significant barriers, a point made increasingly evident as.
